NSmen: Behave yourselves, I don't wanna send you in!

Still waiting for wsk to pass me episodes 1-16 of 爭分奪秒. Have to be prepared to kill time on Saturday. Guess what? Duty again! And it's the second in a week. One of the few times I'm NOT looking forward to the weekends.

Sent another NSman into detention barracks today. My S3 sentenced him to a 4 days stay in SAF corrective centre (for those of you who didn't know, first time detainees will be sent to SAF corrective centre, not SAF DB. It's about the same, just that first timers will do all the 'sand bag drills' and stuff) for AWOL during In Camp Training. 4 days. And because DB doesn't work(at least administratively) on Saturdays and Sundays like the rest of the civil service, he will be released tomorrow. No, I'm not joking. Go in today to get a free shave, free meal, free lodging and see you again next time. So fun. Oh yah, he also has a civil court session tomorrow at 6pm. Maybe he can make it out of DB just in time to be sentenced to Changi for another few days?

But dont be mistaken, I take no joy in sending people to DB. It adds on to my administrative work(by ALOT) just to send in a guy in and it gets worse if there's more than one guy. My docu clerk gets real stressed everytime we need to send somebody in. And DB wont hesitate to reject that guy if there is the slightest mistake in the documents. Some of the reasons DB have rejected my previous NSmen:

  • not EVERY page is signed
  • not EVERY page is stamped "certified correct"
  • not EVERYpage is stamped with the unit stamp
  • the NSman is wearing boots without insoles
  • the NSman is not wearing SAF green socks
  • the NSman doesn't have a 11B, pink IC no count
  • MO's signature (to certify that the NSmen's medical docket is missing) no count, only S1's count
and the list goes on. So we have to make sure all of these details are "squared away" (ask anybody in ocs 51/03 delta wing if you dont know what this means). Not to mention indenting vehicles for transportation, getting RPs to escort, taking over his belongings, medical dockets for FFI etc.. and when he is due for release, the unit HAS to pick him up. To sum up, it sucks.

Just took a look in my records today. He is the 6th guy I've sent in so far.. which is not that much, considering that some other AS1s send in NSmen on a monthly basis. I've also fined more than a hundred people. 108 to be precise. The average fine is about $50-$100. Which means that I have helped the SAF earn at least $6000 - $7000 in the past 9 months or so. Quite cool. Maybe next time I should USMS to suggest that my pay should be directly proportional to the amount of fines I collect. heh. I want a raise!
